England 2016- Crofton Beam Engines

A few days after my father-in-law passed away, we went to visit the Crofton Beam Engines. This is definitely a place that Dave would have loved and I'm sure he had visited. As stated on the official sign above, the Crofton Beam Engines is home to "The oldest working beam engine in the world, in its original location and able to perform its original task." This is an interesting fact, but I have to confess that I have little interest in steam-powered beam engines. We went on a small tour (six people with the guide) and although the guide was very knowledgeable and I enjoyed the tour, I really can't remember any specific information. I do know that I have friends who read my blog that are interested in engineering, so please enjoy the pictures and excuse my lack of concrete information.

We found ample free parking in a lot across the street. Here are some shots of the grounds as we walked towards the entrance.

We didn't visit on a steaming day, but the upside is we practically had the place to ourselves. We paid our 4.50 pounds each and headed to The Engine Man's Rest Cafe for lunch.

Dan ate a grilled cheese sandwich and I had a delicious quiche. However, the real winner was the cakes we ate for dessert. England is a country that knows how to make cake. They have the best desserts and a "Onesies/ aka- afternoon tea/snack" is a great excuses they have for consuming amazing cakes. We could learn a lot from England!

After lunch, we had our tour. Here are the pictures.

If you're visiting the Wilton/Marlborough area, the Crofton Beam Engines is a great piece of engineering history and a lovely way to spend a few hours. Make sure to splurge on cake in the cafe!

Europe 2015- Paultons Park ( Part Three)

Peppa Pig World!!!

Peppa Pig World is a large "land" inside of Paulton Park, similar to Disneyland's Toontown. There are many Peppa Pig themed rides, eateries, and you can even visit Peppa's house. I've watched the show many times ( it's cute), but not enough to know all of the secondary characters, so many elements of the theming were unfamiliar to me. I have no idea who this Mr. Potato is?? A vegetable, when all of the other characters are animals? I suppose it's no less odd than a Pig, Cat and Zebra all hanging out. If your kid is a fan, I'm sure that Peppa Pig World will be a huge hit.

Here are some general pictures of Peppa Pig World. It was bright and cheerful.

There were more rides than we had time to go on. Peppa Pig World is very popular. The kids went on Grandpa Pig's Boat Trip together. It was a bit of a "baby" ride for Zoe, but she was a good big sister going on it with Felix, who was all smiles.

Peppa's little brother, George, has his own dinosaur themed ride.

To get a bird's eye view of the land, we rode on Peppa's Big Balloon Ride.

My favorite ride was Daddy Pig's Car Ride. The cars are so whimsical and fun. I love the bubble shape of them.

We visited Peppa's house and found animatronics of the entire family.

And what Paultons Park does best...

Lastly, we saw Peppa and George. These are two very popular pigs and the line to meet them was very long. We just took a quick snap as we were walking out of the park.

As I mentioned in a previous post, Paultons Park is one of the best values that we encountered for family outings in England. It's a beautiful park with endless creative touches and fun rides. We will definitely be back!

Europe 2015- Paultons Park ( Part Two)

Ice cream for breakfast was followed by a semi-healthy lunch at the Wildwoods Cafe. The Wildwoods Cafe is definitely a cut above most theme park quick-serve fare. The kids ate pasta, Dan had a full English breakfast, and I ordered a chicken sandwich.

After lunch, we rode a miniature train.

And a giant water slide. We rode the slide on plastic mats ( kind of like snow tubing), so we didn't get wet. It was steeper and faster than I would have liked, but the kids loved it.

One of the most adorable rides at Paultons Park is the Trekking Tractors. I nearly died of cute overload when I saw the topiary bunnies and farm animals.

Paultons Park didn't limit themselves to topiary animals, they also had plenty of bird exhibits. What's being kept behind the electrified fence???

Penguins!

Other birds include,,,

We will have to return to Paultons Park for their newest land...Lost Kingdom!

I thought that my Paultons Park trip review would be a two-parter, but I'm going to extend it to three. Next up, an entire post dedicated to Peppa Pig World!
