UK August-October 2013- Worst Curry House in the UK
I'm compelled to write this post to warn you about the "Worst Curry House in the UK". We ended up at The Curry King in Wick, Scotland after having a money snafu in John O' Groats.
Here is a travel tip from our hard lesson learned, don't assume that you will always have easy access to an ATM.
John O' Groats is a small town and the one ATM is at the local gas station. We went in to discover that they don't take foreign ATM cards. Argh!!! We had to drive to Wick, the nearest large town, to get cash from a bank.
The trip to the gas station wasn't a total bust, I discovered that Mac' N Cheese can be bought in a can.
By the time we drove to Wick and got our cash, it was time for dinner and we were craving curry. We should have had a clue when the curry house also advertises pizza, burgers and kebabs.
The restaurant was completely dead. We were the only customers for the entire meal.
Our server was surly and had a great disappearing act. She took our order, delivered our food and was MIA at all other times. We couldn't order several menu items, because the chef deemed them too unpopular to bother making. They kept them listed on the menu, but stopped ordering the necessary ingredients.
The food was bland and over-cooked.
Luckily, we got our cash prior to dinner, as the restaurant was cash only. Naturally, there was no sign stating this and our server just blamed it on management. Nice.
Our meal was a complete disappointment. Always ask for local recommendations before heading out to dinner!
Here are a few more pictures from our brief stop in Wick.
If you visit Wick, avoid The Curry King. You're better off with canned Mac n' Cheese.
