I'm not a fan of family holidays. I love my family, but I strongly object to having specific days of the year where we must gather, stuff ourselves silly while eating at weird times and then playing board games. Nope.
Easter has normally meant my least favorite meal. Sickly sweet sliced ham from Honey Baked, served with potatoes au gratin, jello salad and baked beans, a fruit pie for dessert. Separately, I enjoy all of these foods, but together in one meal, it's just gross.
This year marks the first Easter that my family is no longer alive. Yes, I miss them. A lot. But, do I miss the annual holiday gathering? HELL NO!!!!
Easter 2014 was best Easter that I've ever had. Dan got the brilliant idea to rent a jet ski from Southern California Jet Skis in Oxnard. The weather was gorgeous and we spent about ninety-minutes out on the water.
We've rented jet skis before and this company was by far the best. All of the equipment is less than a year old( Sea-Doos) and the owner, Tony, was very personably. He made sure that we felt safe and he even escorted us out of the harbor. He took a few pictures of us, which he emailed within the hour that we finished our excursion, for free. Thanks for the pictures Tony!
He pointed us in the direction of a pod of dolphins, but we didn't end up seeing them. We did see a very curious sea lion, who was watching us very closely. We mostly just cruised around the ocean, bouncing over waves. We had a great time.
After Jet Skiing, we had a late Easter Brunch on the patio of the Waterside Restaurant, right on the harbor. They had live jazz music and bottomless blood-orange mimosas. Easter was fantastic!
If you're looking for a fun afternoon, make sure to see Tony at Southern California Jet Skis and get out on the water. He has wetsuits and even GoPros to rent to complete your adventure. We plan on going back very soon!
