I'm not a huge fan of Marvel movies, but I've always been a fan of the X-Men Franchise, including the Wolverine spin-offs. The films have great characters and strike enough of a balance between story and action, to hold my interest. Admittedly, I'm a picky film goer, especially when it comes to summer blockbusters.

The latest in the series, X-Men: Days of Future Past, finds our characters in imminent peril that has been brought on by a series of events that was started by Mystique ( Jennifer Lawrence) in 1973. Their only hope is to send Logan (Hugh Jackman) back in time to stop the first event from happening. Of course, being a time travel movie, Logan must be careful of his actions during his mission, so that he doesn't create a worse or different problem. When he lands in the 70's, Logan must convince the feuding Xavier (James McAvoy) and Erik (Michael Fassbender) to join his fight to save the future.

X-Men: Days of Future Past, is probably the weakest story in the franchise. The pacing, in particular towards the end, was very sluggish. It feels like it runs long. The resolution was a let-down, as it was in the same vein as "and then they woke up". This is not a direct spoiler, as it wasn't really all a dream, it was similar though. The story felt a bit see it/done it and was tired feeling.

However,  I still enjoyed the film and as a fan of the series, I was happy to have paid to see it in the theaters. I love the cast. It was nice to see Peter Dinklage in a role outside of Game of Thrones and one that had nothing to do with his size. The scenes with Evan Peters as Quicksilver were a lot of fun and brought a good dose of humor to the story. I hope that we see more of him in future films!  Of course, all of the top billed stars (Jackman, McAvoy, McKellen, Stewart, Lawrence, Fassbender) were great. This is a true ensemble movie. 

Also keeping it enjoyable, was the 1970's theming with the costumes, sets and weaving in bits of History. This was something that I also loved in X-Men: First Class. I love a good period piece. 

Not great, but a decent summer film and if you're a fan, a must-see. As with the others, make sure to sit through the credits for a little surprise at the end.
