The last weekend in July, Dan and I headed to the mountains to celebrate his birthday! It was a beautiful and sweltering hot. We spent the better part of Saturday drinking Mai Tais by the pool at the Lake Arrowhead Resort and Spa. The resort was gorgeous and after making friends with a woman in the hot tub, we discovered that it is by far the nicest resort on the lake. Here is the lobby
The restaurant in the hotel is Bin 189. A mix between being resort casual and upscale, great food and live music in the bar. We hit the bar twice and had Dan's birthday dinner, fantastic filet mignon. The service was top notch, nice people and not pretentious.
I also loved the art over the check in desk!
Prior to lazying around the pool on Saturday afternoon ( really, it was too hot to do anything else) we walked into the Arrowhead Village for Belgian Waffles!
The Belgian Waffle Works is a must do when visiting Lake Arrowhead. It doesn't matter how long the wait may be and trust me, there will be a wait, you put your name down. I had not been to Waffle Works in years, but they have expanded the menu to include sliders and other non-waffle items. The horror. I don't even really like waffles, but when at Waffle Works, you have to go with a waffle. It's blasphemous to do otherwise. In the past, I have always kept it simple with a strawberry or banana topping. This time, I felt the need for some protein and went out on a limb with the monte cristo waffle sandwich. It was okay, but not as good as a regular monte cristo. I think that it's time to switch back to sticking with what I know works.
So, back to that time you'll have to kill while waiting to be seated for waffles. It's not a problem, because Waffle Works and every other business in the vicinity, sells duck food!!! My favorite thing about Lake Arrowhead, is feeding the ducks. They go absolutely nuts for the pellets. It's fifty cents a bag and worth every penny.
Me, very gleeful with the duck food.
A beautiful picture of the choppy lake. The air off the lake was still, but the water was super choppy at Big Bear too.
Also while in town, we happened on a car show. Lots of great old cars and even some new ones. This one, parked near Waffle Works, made us laugh.
The owner even splashed water on the ground to make it look like pee...which dried up quick in the hot sun.
Also in the village, we saw a lot more bear statues once we hit Big Bear!
And lastly, my favorite sign of the day!
