Shockingly, it had been two months since I had seen a movie in the theaters. I was starting to get itchy, it felt like there was a movie-shaped hole in my life...No fear, we saw two movies this weekend and balance has returned to my universe.
PLOT- Spectre starts with James Bond ( Daniel Craig) on a rouge mission in Mexico City. Information obtained in Mexico, leads him to Italy, where he seduces a beautiful widow (Monica Bellucci) and infiltrates a secret meeting of Spectre, a criminal organization. As Bond continues to work outside of MI6 as a rouge agent, he begins to discover the reach of Spectre's influence, include his own personal ties.
LIKE- Daniel Craig. Love = Daniel Craig. Please say that this isn't really his last Bond film! As with the other films in the franchise, the fun is in the grand destinations, stylish attire, and sexy cars. It's all eye candy.
The opening sequence with the continuous shot of Bond working his way through a Dia De Los Muertos festival, was brilliant and exciting. Great way to kick off the film.
There is a very tense scene when Bond is caught by the villain ( Christoph Waltz) and is being tortured with needles. There wasn't a single person in the audience who wasn't cringing. The fight scene on the train was also a highlight.
DISLIKE- It was going to be hard to top Skyfall, and Spectre didn't come close. The story just wasn't as strong. There were two silly helicopter scenes that were just too over-the-top to be believed. Monica Bellucci and Lea Seydoux are good actresses, but their chemistry with Craig was lacking. Christoph Waltz plays a good villain, but talk about obvious casting. I'd love for him to play a good guy for once! I'm going to start a petition to get this going.
RECOMMEND- Yes. I mean, c'mon, it's the latest Bond film. Spectre is grand, so it needs to be seen on the big screen. It certainly isn't the worst in the franchise, it's just a tough act to follow Skyfall.
